Thanksgiving 2008

What do I have to be thankful for? This year more so than any other, I have so much to be thankful for.... For starters, we had a great year in business. Despite the state of the overall economy, Emily's catering Group has persevered and done pretty well.

I have my health, I bought and renovated my building, I kept my staff employed and built a solid team. My family is great and my daughter, Alex, has made me most proud by applying to, of all places, Yale University. Her younger sister, Margaret, constantly amazes me with her wit and humor - and her ability to always make me smile.

My step children are healthy and content. My step daughter, Ally, is a champion equestrian in her class and her younger brother Dan, blew me away with his first report card in junior high school.

My wife is super supportive of me and my business and my parents are healthy and active. What more is there? If we have our health, our families and our ability to smile each day, what else do we need?

I am thankful for my clients, friends and family who support my business and everything we do... Without you we'd be nothing! With you we are G R E A T!

So I was thinking

So as I was thinking about this blog yesterday, I was wondering what else I can tell you about my company. Aside from what we do on an everyday business, I'd like to expound on some of our accomplishments over the past five years.

We have grown to become the area's most innovative caterer. Not all caterers are created equally and we have separated ourselves by constantly changing and growing by keeping up with catering trends while innovating some of our own.

Our marketing and sales techniques coupled with our great value and pricing has allowed us to grow three fold since our first year. That is a great feat even in this trying economy.

When we started I had three part time employees. We now employ twelve full time and another 100 part time staff . We now have an in house event planner and marketing specialist as well as a director of sales, administrative assistant, executive chef and several sous chefs.

Our warehouse has overflowed with equipment!!! We own most everything we need to execute events in a professional and tasteful manner. Throughout the year, we find ourselves purchasing more glass, flat and dishware to accommodate our growing demand. We still rent from several sources to fill in, but for the most part we handle everything else ourselves.

Now how do we get the equipment from our place to yours? We have a fleet of trucks, vans, suv's and even a trailer to get our equipment to your event. The pride of our fleet is our refrigerated truck; it allows us the opportunity to seek event s that are geographically further away as we don't' have to worry about transporting food at the improper temperatures.

Most importantly is our newly renovated facility. For the past four years we rented a small space (2500 sq ft) and housed everything within that space. As we took on more staff and equipment, we needed to house our equipment in outdoor storage trailers, so we made the plunge in November of 2007 and purchased the building. We were able to take over all of the space and grow to 4800 square feet. The renovation was complete in July and we now have and entire suite of offices, a tasting room, a large warehouse and an enlarged kitchen. This has been great for us as we are now much more efficient and productive.
